Stop. Focus. Choose.

Some of us are so busy running on the hamster wheel, running just to keep the wheel turning, that we often don’t stop to figure out where we actually WANT to go. We’re too programmed to keep running from one task to the next that we forget to even define bigger goals. Why? Because its easier this way. Because stopping long enough to think and focus and make some personal decisions, well, that is actually a really tough thing to do.

I am a big believer in taking time to consciously decide what you want in life. Coasting along, letting life happen to you, is fine until you find yourself, years down the track unrecognisable to yourself, saying “How did I get here?”

This isn’t something you need to do every day. Maybe do it a couple of times a year or even just around milestone periods in your life. Take some control of your own fate- in your work and personal life. And be specific. Very specific. The more detailed it is, I promise you, the more this will work!

Once you know what you want, you and the universe start moving to make that happen. Seriously. This philosophy has been around for 1000’s of years and was recently made fashionable, and somewhat trivialised, in the publishing of the book “The Secret”. But the ancient theory works for obvious reasons. If you are conscious of what you want, you are more open to opportunities to realise it. You still have to do the work, but sometimes, simply having made a decision is enough.

I believe however, that the real secret is not only in being conscious of what you want, but in being able to recognise what you want, when it is right in front of you. Because it might not come in exactly the format you were expecting.

So today. Write down 3 things in your work life and personal life that you WANT – big or small. Even use pictures and stick them on your fridge.Any way that works for you, as long as you are specific.
